As Tropical Storm Imelda continues its journey across the Bahamas, South Florida residents can expect to remain mostly unscathed by the cyclone that's situated approximately 200 miles east of Miami. Despite our proximity to the tropical disturbance, forecasters anticipate a modest 30-40% chance of showers, with some breezes in the mix for good measure. According to an update from the National Weather Service, there's a greater chance of rain in the coming days, but for now, the conditions will be breezy, with an expected high of 91° for today.
Marine conditions, on the other hand, are less than ideal. As Imelda makes its presence felt offshore, a high risk of rip currents is in effect, cautioning beach-goers and mariners alike. A small craft advisory stands as a testament to the influence a storm can have, even from a distance. NBC Miami obtained this data and reported on the increased marine activity as Imelda pushes away, with forecasts indicating that "even direr conditions move in on Tuesday." Rain is expected to creep back into the forecast by mid-week and sustain through the end of the week.
Starting Tuesday, showers are expected to return and may become a regular part of the daily forecast. NBC Miami's weather forecast predicts that while Tuesday might dawn mostly sunny and hot, with temperatures likely reaching a high near 92°, there's also a slight chance for the afternoon to bring some storm activity. This pattern of early sunshine followed by a chance of showers seems set to continue throughout the week.
As we move through the week, that chance for precipitation ramps up. The National Weather Service outlines a very definitive increase in likelihood, particularly from Wednesday onwards. They predict a 40 percent "chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm" for Wednesday, with partly sunny skies and high temperatures around 88°. This trend is expected to persist, with the probability of rain and storms to consistently hover at about 60%, especially during the latter part of the week and into the weekend.
The extended forecast calls for both preparation and patience in Miami, with a mix of sunshine and possible rain each day. Partly sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers are expected through the week, while high temperatures ease from around 91° on Wednesday to 87° by Friday.
