
After an intensive investigation, the Columbia Police Department (CPD) has apprehended a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run that led to the death of 63-year-old Teresa Nelson. Reports indicate that the CPD responded to a call on the morning of Sept. 11, when Nelson was discovered deceased on Tom J. Hitch Parkway. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested and the vehicle implicated in the incident has been seized.
Details surrounding the timeline of events were narrowed down as Nelson was last seen at her residence around 4:30 a.m., and emergency services were called to the scene roughly 20 minutes later, according to a statement obtained by WKRN News.
The Columbia Police Department confirmed the arrest through their social media channels, giving credit to community cooperation and detective work to find the driver responsible for the fatal crash. "We extend our deepest gratitude to the community for submitting tips, expressing condolences to the family, and to our detectives, who continue to work diligently on this case," CPD mentioned in a Facebook post.
