A man has been taken into custody for allegedly making threats against Del Mar City Hall staff, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office reported. Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station were dispatched to the scene after a phone call on Thursday afternoon indicated a potential violent incident was brewing. The nature of the threats, apparently including a reference to "shooting up" the center of local governance, prompted an immediate response.
Out of a heightened concern for public and staff protection, city officials promptly canceled a concert set to take place at the Civic Center. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, deputies acted to clear the premises safely. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Kyle Knudsen, was later apprehended outside his residence in San Diego without further incident.
In the course of their investigation, deputies confiscated a legally acquired firearm and a 15-round magazine, the latter representing a breach of California Penal Code 32310 due to its capacity. Knudsen now faces charges of making a criminal threat and possession of a large-capacity magazine. The incident sparked a reiteration from law enforcement officials about how they treat such threats and the importance of reporting suspicious activity.
Knudsen was booked at the Vista Detention Facility, where formal charges are pending. The Sheriff's Office urged the local community to remain vigilant and proactive in safety matters.
