A Fort Lauderdale neighborhood was rocked by a SWAT situation early this morning as authorities used explosives to gain entry into a residence during what has been described as a "planned operation." According to WSVN, SWAT teams and a K9 unit were deployed to the property located at Northwest 26th Terrace and Northwest 16th Court, resulting in the explosion of the home's garage. The operation commenced before dawn, around 6:30 a.m. Witnesses reported debris from the explosion scattered on the hood of a truck, and at least five men were detained, including an elderly individual visibly upset by the damage.
Sheri Jackson, a resident living next door to the targeted home, recounted being woken up by a "loud boom," as per a report by NBC Miami. "Lights, loud boom, cops everywhere, SWATs surrounding the front, the back, walking through the yard," Jackson disclosed. She also mentioned the distress caused to her household, which includes a disabled mother. Another neighbor lamented the excessive force used against what she believed were "good people," criticizing the authorities for inflicting extensive damage on the home.
Local residents were confused by the sudden and forceful police activity. One individual, speaking to WSVN, described years of unusual traffic at the residence in question, hinting at previous suspicions. Despite the dramatic tactics employed, no arrests were reported as a result of the operation.
Further details came from Local 10, which noted that the Fort Lauderdale police confirmed their assistance in a criminal investigation led by the Boynton Beach police. Neighbor William Ward claimed to have heard what sounded like ten gunshots, though authorities have not verified any shots were fired. "There were shots fired -- about 10," Ward said. "They were constantly asking the occupants of the house to come out with their hands up and that they had a warrant to search the premises." Authorities used flashbangs to breach the garage door, contributing to the chaos experienced by residents.
The precise nature of the investigation remains unclear. Officials have yet to provide additional information on the incident, maintaining the status of the investigation as active and ongoing.
