As Thanksgiving approaches, the City of Tamarac is gearing up for a time-honored event: the 45th Annual Tamarac Turkey Trot 5K Race. Set to unfold on Thanksgiving morning, the community tradition is welcoming registrants eager to burn off those pre-feast calories with a brisk morning run. Last year's Turkey Trot drew in a staggering 2,500 participants, setting a new attendance record for the festive race, as detailed by the city's announcement.
The city anticipates an equally enthusiastic turnout this November 27, at 7:30 a.m., when the race commences at Tamarac City Hall, located at 7525 NW 88th Ave. In a move designed to engage runners of every stripe, the event is open to not just avid runners but, walkers and wheelchair users too. The first 2,000 participants to register will receive a 2025 commemorative T-shirt as a special giveaway.
Every trotter who rounds the 5K with a bib pinned to their chest will receive a finisher's medal, while trophies await the top three overall male and female finishers and age group champions. Plans are already in motion to ensure this year's run is just as memorable, or more so, than the last. As per the city’s announcement, entrants can look forward to "family-friendly activities, including live music, fitness vendors and door prizes."
Prospective trotters can head over to the city's website to secure their spot in the race. Fees for runners are tiered, encouraging early sign-ups: $30 through October 30, $35 from October 31 to November 17, and $40 from November 18 up until the day before the race, November 26. Remember, the window for online registration clicks shut at noon the day prior to the Turkey Trot, and there won't be any registration available on the day of the race.
