The company aims to inject roughly $25.5 million into revamping the location into a multi-dining venture known as The Landing, synonymously preserving the classic Fish Market and adding a variety of fresh dining experiences. According to the Port of San Diego, this project includes introducing four distinct eateries and enhancing public space with a waterfront walkway, landscaping, and public art.

The Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners has given a nod of initial approval, moving the proposal into the environmental review phase on Tuesday. "The Landing will transform this stretch of our waterfront into a premier destination," Chair Danielle Moore conveyed, emphasizing the inclusive vision for San Diego's ever-growing waterfront, per the Port of San Diego. Mike Morton, Jr., president and CEO of Brigantine Restaurants, expressed gratitude for the Port Commission's support, committing to honoring the Duckett and Wilson families' legacy with this modern take on the site. The proposed redevelopment promises a range of venues, from a casual seafood eatery and an express market to the swanky Salt & Sears Prime Steak House, which has bay views and banquet facilities for social and corporate gatherings.

Although the current two-story building at North Harbor Drive could see its demolition, a new structure with mirrored functionality is in the cards. The first floor is slated to encompass the classic Fish Market with an enhanced seating design, The Little Market for those on-the-run seafood cravings, and a space for clients seeking a venue for their events. Upstairs, an upscale steakhouse experience awaits with the prime real estate of panoramic views and additional space for private functions.

In terms of public perks, the plan includes a public waterway walkway that invites locals and visitors alike to enjoy the scenic perimeter of the new build. Enhanced greenery and expressions of art, intended to bring light and character to the space, are also part of the promise. The board has tasked Port staff to commence an environmental review as mandated by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The directive, however, does not imply an endorsement of the lease amendment, the project description, or any related financing. Additional steps, such as obtaining a Coastal Development Permit, are also on the horizon before any construction can set sail.
