Three people, including two children, died in a two-vehicle crash in Southwest Miami-Dade. The collision occurred last evening on Quail Roost Drive near Southwest 117th Avenue and involved a black Lexus sedan and a gray GMC SUV. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded just after 6 p.m, WSVN reported.

Authorities found the Lexus severely damaged and the GMC with heavy rear damage. The driver of the Lexus and a child passenger died at the scene, and another child from the GMC, who was airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, later died from injuries. Other occupants were seriously injured.

According to Local 10, Quail Roost Drive, also known as State Road 994, was closed for several hours while the Florida Highway Patrol investigated. Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue assisted in the response.

Detective Samantha Choon stated that FHP troopers reopened Quail Roost Drive by 11 p.m. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to investigate the fatalities and notify the next of kin. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
