Two L.A. County deputy sheriffs found themselves hospitalized after their vehicle collided with a suspect's car at a South L.A. intersection. The crash took place Monday night around 9 p.m. near Vermont Avenue and West 98th Street, according to KTLA. Eyewitness reports and preliminary accounts suggest that the deputies were moving north when they encountered a vehicle speeding east on 98th Street.
The suspect, presumed to be intoxicated given the circumstances of the night, fled on foot but was later apprehended. In a statement obtained by CBS News Los Angeles, the suspect is now detained, facing charges of possible DUI and hit-and-run that resulted in injury.
ABC7 notes, the deputies were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for evaluation. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening, officials said.
