Glendale, California, witnessed a bold theft this past weekend as an uninvited guest absconded with a hefty sum from a wedding celebration at the Renaissance Banquet Hall. Surveillance footage captured the man as he loitered inside the venue before making off with a box full of cash and checks meant for the newlyweds. This incident has left an Orange County couple, George and Nadeen Farahat, grappling with the abrupt end to their joyful occasion.
According to KTLA, the wedding crasher blended in with guests and proceeded to swipe the box containing an estimated $80,000 to $100,000 in gifts around 12:30 a.m. on August 30. The surveillance video from the Glendale venue later showed the suspect fleeing in a black Mercedes-Benz. George Farahat expressed to KTLA the violation of trust, stating, "It was a wonderful party until the incident took place."
The thief had posed as a guest, moving around unnoticed for over an hour and a half. "It's so scary to look back and see that there was a stranger at such a private event, and such an intimate event. It's such a violation," Nadeen told ABC7 while recounting the harrowing experience.
Authorities have turned to the public for assistance, and the Glendale Police Department has a contact number for any tips regarding the suspect's identity. In a statement obtained by FOX LA, they urge anyone with information to dial (818) 548-4911.
