Students from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are celebrating a major achievement after scooping 10 Student Production Awards from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), an accomplishment that recognizes the budding talent cultivated within the institution's Media Production program. These student creators not only bring home accolades; they also boast a total of 20 nominations spanning 12 different categories — a testament to their comprehensive storytelling capabilities — categories that ranged from non-fiction and fiction to arts/entertainment and sports, showcasing a breadth of interest and skill.
The recognized works, a collaborative effort featuring contributions from CCM's Acting, Theatre Design and Production, and even work from the CCM Percussion faculty and students are a mirror reflecting the collective work and dedication that goes into the media production process, some of these cinematic pieces available for public viewing on CCM's YouTube channel leaving audiences with little room for doubt about the students' proficiency. "Receiving nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is a tremendous honor and testament to the quality education students are receiving in CCM Media Production," Associate Professor of Film and Television Production, Donald Hancock, noted in a statement via the UC News. He also highlighted the important role of cross-disciplinary collaboration, critical to the success of these projects.
Hancock did not shy away from acknowledging the team behind the scenes, praising colleagues like Joe Brackman, Kevin Burke, Drew Thomas, and Melissa Godoy for their unwavering support and contributions that have shaped the program’s trajectory of growth and recognition.
As remarked by Hancock, in a published article, their dedication to providing quality experiences for their students is an integral part of the program's growth. The continued accolades reflect a burgeoning reputation for excellence, one that is sure to attract future talent to the CCM halls. Winning projects in the NATAS Student Production Awards have set a precedent for what is possible when potential is nurtured, demonstrating the high level of proficiency that the university instills in its students.
