
The Vero Beach Police Department is on the lookout for two men they believe pulled off a slick scam at a local Walmart, leaving the retailer out $3,100 in a cash shortfall stemming from wire transfer transactions. According to details provided by CBS12, the duo entered the store on 1750 US Hwy 1 on September 10.
The scam unfolded as the pair carried out two separate money transfer transactions totaling $4,900, during which they distracted the cashier which led to the register coming up short by $3,100 – this according to the police department's report; meanwhile, WPBF says the first suspect is described as around 38 years old, with an average build and standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall, sporting a dark cap and glasses along with a brown polo, while the second suspect, similar in age, is noted for his larger build and height at 5 feet 9 inches, seen in a gray camouflage cap and a gray shirt.
Authorities have provided the public with descriptions of the men in the hope that someone may come forward with information; the Vero Beach Police Department's own Det. Fonseca is the point of contact for leads, available on 772-978-4604, but there's also the option for anonymous tips through Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers, reached at 800-273-8477, where tipsters might be eligible for a reward should their information prove to be of value in the capture and conviction of the suspects.
