Tragedy struck in Weber County in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to a social media post by the Weber County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to the scene after a 911 call reported a shooting at approximately 01:00 am on Sunday, in the area of 9300 W 900 S, somewhere in the unincorporated stretches of the county. The scene they arrived at was chaotic, with a large gathering and multiple vehicles hastily exiting the area.
Amid the confusion, deputies were able to first locate a male in his early 20s, who had suffered a critical gunshot wound to the head. In order to quickly offer aid, he was airlifted to a hospital. A 5-year-old girl also fell victim, sustaining a gunshot to her leg/hip, but her injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. Furthermore, another male was shot in the shoulder and was later transported by ambulance with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
As the investigation continues, the Sheriff's Office has been actively interviewing witnesses and is in the process of identifying a suspect. Yet, despite these efforts, the details remain scant. "Our detectives are currently speaking to all the witnesses that were in the area and are working to identify a suspect," said Sgt. Paul Babinsky, as per the Weber County Sheriff's Office. In these early stages, the authorities have kept a tight lid on information.
