The Nora District, a $1 billion redevelopment venture in West Palm Beach, has initiated its soft opening phase, with several businesses already opening their doors amidst ongoing construction. This update comes from a report by WFLX, who visited the 800 block of North Railroad Avenue to witness the district's gradual wake from developmental slumber. According to the source, the area, still festooned with construction equipment, saw locals like Sheila Becker attending a pilates class at Solidcore, one of the newly minted establishments, on Labor Day.
In a statement obtained by WFLX, Becker expressed her enthusiasm: “I took a Solidcore class, the 10 o’clock class, it was amazing. Obviously, West Palm is blowing up and getting so busy. I’m just five minutes away, it’s beautiful, I think there’s a lot of good things coming.” Notable for being the largest planned redevelopment since City Place opened in 2000, the Nora District is gradually unveiling shops which, alongside Solidcore, includes IGK Hair Salon, Zen Hippo, and Celis among others scheduled throughout the year, as construction marches towards completion.
Further complementing the district's eclectic offering is the Sunday Motor Co. coffee shop, as reported by WPBF. Nora encompasses 160,000 square feet of retail space, a refurbished testament to the city’s historic railway buildings and warehouses. Originated from the vision of Joe Furst, founder and managing principal of Place Projects, the development embraces both the heritage of West Palm Beach and the influx of new energy by housing businesses that resonate with locals and newcomers alike.
Furst reflected on the complex journey of Nora's development in a WPBF interview, stating, "We went through a lot of interesting stories as it relates to the acquisition of the real estate. Of course, the entitlement process with the city of West Palm, the master plan that we ended up creating. And then, of course, the development process.” NORA is expected to set a precedent for downtown West Palm Beach, becoming a hub that will attract visitors from the entire region with its diverse and vibrant commercial landscape.
ZenHippo employees Lily Binton and Daniela Hubbarth praised not just the beauty of the complex but the lifestyle it offers. Binton told WPBF, “It is genuinely the most beautiful complex I've seen recently,” while Hubbarth added, “I think it's amazing because it's such a nice way to have a break, and you can always like, disconnect and do something else, and then just go back to your routine. So, I think it's great to have so many options.” The Nora District promises to progressively open additional businesses through the fall, ultimately aiming for a grand opening slated for next year once the Nora hotel is complete.
