White County schools have been awarded more than $251,000 through Indiana’s Secured School Safety Grant Program. According to Indiana House Republicans, the grants are part of a $27 million statewide investment supporting 494 schools.
Frontier School Corp. will receive $70,543, North White School Corp. $37,462, Tri-County School Corp. $92,500, and Twin Lakes School Corp. $50,875. Funds may be used for security measures such as hiring resource officers, upgrading technology, active event warning systems, threat assessments, and student-parent support services.
State Representatives Matt Commons and Kendell Culp said the funding will help schools improve safety. The state has also introduced legislation to move the Office of School Safety under the Department of Homeland Security to centralize school safety efforts.
Since 2013, Indiana has invested more than $214 million in school safety through these grants. More information about the Secured School Safety Grant Program is available at in.gov/schoolsafety.
