
Tragedy struck the South Chicago neighborhood Thursday night when a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident occurred around 10:55 p.m. on the 8800 block of South Marquette Avenue.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed by officials, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He collapsed on the parkway in front of 8816 S. Marquette Ave, where he had been with a group of acquaintances. In the wake of the shooting, his companions rushed him to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:06 p.m., according he CBS News Chicago reports.
Police discovered a purse with apparent blood at the scene, and are actively seeking witnesses and video evidence. However, details about the circumstances leading to the shooting have not been forthcoming, and at this stage, no arrests have been made. The Chicago Police Area 2 detectives have taken charge of the investigation.
