
An 18-year-old motorcyclist, Hector Santos Martinez, tragically lost his life after a hit-and-run incident in Springfield late Saturday night, this according to multiple reports. WSMV details that Martinez succumbed to his injuries at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center after being struck by a 2000 Nissan Xterra whose driver fled the scene on foot.
Smokey Barn News reports that the crash occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and 21st Avenue, when the Nissan Xterra ran a stop sign and collided with Martinez, who was on his motorcycle, following this crash both vehicles came to rest on East 21st Street. In addition to the harrowing scene, Smokey Barn News made the decision to release surveillance video footage from the nearby One Stop Market, cautioning that the video is graphic due to the mechanics of the crash.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol, now in charge of the investigation, revealed that the crash happened as Martinez was proceeding north on Main Street. The preliminary report confirms the driver of the SUV failed to observe a stop sign just before striking Martinez. Despite the inclement weather that beset the area shortly after the incident, THP is pushing forward with the inquiry. Meanwhile, police efforts to locate the driver continue and charges are forthcoming.
