
A 4-year-old girl, Juslene Akeza, tragically lost her life after being struck by a minivan while crossing the street in West Ridge on Wednesday evening, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The incident occurred in the 6200 block of North Talman Avenue at around 5:43 p.m., where the child was hit by a 72-year-old driver.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the young girl was taken to St. Francis Hospital following the crash, but was pronounced dead shortly after, complications from her injuries inevitably reaping what time she had left on this earth. The driver of the minivan has been cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failing to exercise due care to avoid a pedestrian. As per the Chicago Police Department's findings, the collision is still under active investigation as the community reels from the loss.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed Juslene's identity and the untimely occurrence of her demise at 6:15 p.m. on the fateful evening.
