Chicago businesses in Albany Park are on alert after a series of aggravated robberies has struck the 017th District, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. The string of thefts began on September 19 and continued through September 30, with a suspect behind the counter threatening store employees that resistance would be met with gunfire, before looting cash registers and grabbing liquor and cigarettes.
The incidents occurred on the 3600 and 3700 blocks of West Lawrence Ave., all within Albany Park, the latest being on September 30 at 9:59 pm at the 3700 block location. The suspect, described as a black male, between 5'05" and 5'09" in height and weighing around 130 to 170 pounds with short hair and a dark complexion, isn't associated with any known vehicle.
Local businesses and residents are encouraged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. The CPD's alert also advises ensuring that surveillance cameras are functional and recording to aid in the investigation. In the event of a robbery, authorities underscore the importance of prioritizing safety over pursuit, recommending that detailed descriptions and information about the assailant be left to the police.
The police have not only asked the community to keep their eyes open but also to maintain open communication lines with neighboring businesses, as a collective watch could deter further incidents. If approached by a witness, acquiring their contact information could prove invaluable. "Never pursue a fleeing assailant; provide the information to the police," the CPD statement resonates.
