
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a woman who was killed after being struck by a train on the night of October 3. The incident, which claimed the life of 33-year-old Candace N. Barnett of Caryville, occurred near Mountain Side Lane at Ponderosa Lane, just outside Rocky Top. Barnett's death has since prompted an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy.
Deputies responded to the scene around 10 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit by a train, as reported by WVLT. Captain Shain Vowell of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the ACSO Criminal Investigation Division was engaged, and, Barnett was later identified as the victim. The Sheriff's Office family, extended their "prayers and thoughts to her family," in a compassionate response to the tragedy, as mentioned on WATE.
According to WBIR, the site of the incident was near Barnett's last known address in Caryville. The Sheriff's Office has provided no further details regarding the events leading up to her death or the train involved.
Emergency medical personnel attended the scene on Thursday afternoon, confirming Barnett's death upon their arrival. "The Sheriff’s Office family offers our prayers and thoughts to her family," the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement obtained by WATE.
