Residents and commuters along Western Avenue in Avondale can expect to see some upgrades in the coming weeks. According to a recent announcement from the City of Avondale, pedestrian lighting is set to be improved starting mid to late October. The project, running from Central Avenue to Dysart Road, will feature the installation of new LED lighting fixtures, updated wiring, and fresh poles to enhance visibility and safety for pedestrians.
Despite construction, Western Avenue will remain open to traffic. However, some parking spaces might temporarily fall prey to restrictions to better accommodate the work crews. The City plans to conduct the bulk of the work during early weekday hours, starting as early as 4 a.m., to minimize disturbance to local businesses and maintain access, according to the official City announcement.
This construction is not only a matter of replacing bulbs, but a significant upgrade that aims to provide a well-lit path for all who tread along Western Avenue after sundown. With pedestrian safety a growing concern, these improvements come as a proactive step by the municipality to ensure a safer environment, reassuring those who live and work in the area that their well-being is a priority.
While construction is expected to wrap up in about 8 to 10 weeks, patience from the public is requested. The City has emphasized that all efforts are to be made in maintaining a steady flow of life and commerce during this period. Those with questions or requiring further information have been directed to reach out to the City at (602)532-6250 as stated in the news release.
