In a sobering incident out of Carlsbad, a pedestrian lost their life in a traffic collision yesterday. The City of Carlsbad Police Department has reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Tamarack Avenue and Skyline Road, with police receiving the call at around 11:19 AM.
Details released by the local authorities indicate that upon their arrival at the scene, officers found the pedestrian already deceased due to injuries from the collision. The driver, later identified as 57-year-old Paul Hiniker of Carlsbad, initially fled the scene but returned while officers were on site. Paul Hiniker was then arrested for leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.
Following the arrest, Hiniker was booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete circumstances of the collision, with Carlsbad police putting out a call for additional witnesses. According to officials, alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in this tragic event. As of now, the name of the victim remains undisclosed, pending an official release from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
