Chicagoans are currently experiencing an unusually warm Sunday, with temperatures soaring into the mid-80s. The sunny skies of today will soon give way to changing conditions as the week progresses. The National Weather Service forecasts winds to pick up, possibly gusting as high as 30 mph.
Looking ahead, there's a shift in the weather pattern. A cold front is on its way from the high plains, which will usher in cooler temperatures and potential rainfall. Fox 32 Meteorologist Mark Strehl reports that this transition is expected to start late Monday into early Tuesday.
For those ready for a respite from the heat, Monday's weather might just bring that change. A 40% chance of showers is in the forecast between the hours of 1 pm and 4 pm, growing to a likelihood of showers and thunderstorms after 4 pm. The odds climb to an 80% chance of precipitation Monday night, when showers and a possible thunderstorm are predicted.
Tuesday will not be free of rainfall, with a persisting 30 percent chance of showers before 1 pm. However, the latter part of the week is expected to remain dry. Temperatures are set to drop as well, with Tuesday's forecasted high near 66 and a continuous cool down throughout the rest of the week.
As for the evening forecasts, Chicago nights will gradually become more autumnal, with Monday night's low around 60, descending to the low 50s by Wednesday night. By the end of the week, Friday night's temperatures are expected to hover around 57, providing a gentler transition into the weekend.
