
A cyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in Chicago's Near West Side neighborhood, prompting a community alert from local authorities. The collision, which occurred at the intersection of Damen Avenue and Van Buren Street, took place on Tuesday, according to a release from the Chicago Police Department. The victim was riding their bicycle northbound on Damen Avenue when they were struck by a red 2010 Ford Fusion sedan, which fled the scene.
Police have released information on the fleeing vehicle, bearing an Illinois license plate BN 64959, in the hopes of garnering public assistance in locating the driver responsible for the accident. Witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident are urged to contact the authorities and are advised to call 9-1-1 if they spot the vehicle, but not to engage or touch the vehicle. "Never pursue a fleeing vehicle; provide the information to the police," the police statement emphasized.
The incident took place yesterday at approximately 4:35 pm. Investigators are seeking any potential leads that could assist in resolving the case and bringing the person or persons responsible to justice. Community members familiar with the vehicle’s routines or those who might recognize the red sedan are encouraged to step forward with information.
The Chicago Police Department has requested the public's assistance and urges anyone with information to report it. "If you have any information regarding the vehicle’s locations it may frequent, or the identity of any known drivers, please contact the police," stated the community alert.
