Residents of the Roselawn neighborhood are reeling after a fatal shooting took place on Saturday afternoon. The Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Summit Road near the Roselawn Summit Apartments, as reported by WCPO. A man, later identified as 35-year-old Kenny Townshend, was found with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by the Cincinnati Fire Department to save Townshend's life, he was declared dead at the scene.
The CPD's Homicide Unit is currently leading the investigation into the shooting, with no suspects named at this time. According to WLWT, anyone with information is encouraged to contact authorities. The community has been left to grapple with this violence as neighbors report that the apartment building where the shooting occurred is known for illegal activities, including drug dealing.
Lt. Jonathan Cunningham of the Cincinnati Police Department confirmed the fatality and the location of the incident to FOX19. Reports from neighbors, shared with FOX19 NOW under conditions of anonymity, alerted the community to multiple shootings at this same apartment building earlier in the year, further intensifying safety concerns.
As the investigation continues, police have yet to release detailed information regarding the events that led up to the shooting. Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police president Ken Kober mentioned to FOX19 that the man had suffered life-threatening injuries before succumbing.
