In the wake of a spate of gun violence in Downtown Cincinnati, city leaders are taking a firm stance on curbing the uptick in incidents, as evidenced by the latest shooting at the popular CityBird Tenders restaurant on Fountain Square where two individuals, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to WLWT, the shooting began near Clifton and spiraled into a violent confrontation that concluded with shots fired inside the establishment, resulting in two arrests in connection with the incident.

Addressing this unacceptable level of violence, the Mayor of Cincinnati, Aftab Pureval has announced sweeping changes including the deployment of the Civil Disturbance Response Team (CDRT) and SWAT in the Fountain Square area from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, as captured by LOCAL12, in addition to an earlier curfew to be enforced in the district, Mayor Pureval explicitly warning that "If you are an unsupervised teen and you’re breaking curfew, we will move you, or we will arrest you."

Chief of Police Teresa Theetge expressed concern over the recent violent trends and emphasized the importance of more rigorous law enforcement, even on low-level crimes, in efforts to regain control over the city's peace, this response marks a change in tactic as the city confronts the rising toll of downtown conflicts escalating into gun violence according to FOX19, additionally, the mayor is consulting with SORTA officials to deconcentrate transport hubs that have seen issues with teenager gatherings.

Further outlining these measures is the prospect of new legislation presented to the city council aimed at establishing an earlier curfew throughout the urban core, Mayor Pureval is focused on expanding the reach and effectiveness of these new rules, applicable not just to Fountain Square but the entire downtown area, his firm stance comes as no surprise following the multiple incidents that have cast a shadow over what should be a vibrant communal space, this slate of resolutions underscores a concerted effort by the city to reclaim safety and order, said Pureval.
