
A car and bicycle collision in unincorporated Cary on Silver Lake Road near Killarney Drive has resulted in critical injuries for the cyclist involved. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident occurred on Tuesday, October 7th, around 5:45 p.m.
The incident involved a 2015 Honda Civic, which was traveling southbound when it struck the bicyclist. The victim, a 69-year-old man from Cary, was attempting to enter the roadway from Killarney Drive but failed to properly stop or yield at the intersection, which is only controlled by a stop sign on Killarney Drive. He was subsequently ejected from his bike and had to be rushed to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries. The cyclist was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Authorities have stated that the driver of the Honda Civic, a 26-year-old man from Crystal Lake, is fully cooperating with their ongoing investigation. The crash is currently under the scrutiny of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit. More details are expected to be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
