San Francisco Police have nabbed a robbery suspect with the assistance of the Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC), highlighting the efficacy of the department's technological capabilities in addressing crime. Last Saturday, officers were dispatched to a Mission Street business after an adult male reportedly demanded money while brandishing a weapon concealed by a bag. The man, now identified as Stephen Smith, 68, from Daly City, managed to flee with both cash from the register and the victim's cell phone.
The crime unfolded as the suspect, having just robbed a small business, faced the victim once again outside, boldly demanding more money before absconding with her cell phone. According to the San Francisco Police Department, RTIC operatives tracked the vehicle associated with the suspect moving north on 7th Street towards Mission Street. Officers quickly responded and were able to take Smith into custody without further incident.
While this arrest brings some closure to the incident, the SFPD emphasizes that the investigation remains active and ongoing. The department is calling on anyone with additional information to step forward.
