The Germantown Police Department has added a new K-9 officer to their team, a one-year-old Dutch Shepherd named Taz from Slovakia. Taz was selected after ranking first among approximately 20 dogs during an evaluation at High Drive K9 in Greenville, South Carolina. Taz and his handler, Officer Nick Iacobucci, will undergo training with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, focusing on detection, tracking, and community engagement, according to a statement on the Germantown municipal website.
Taz arrived in the United States with a notable skill set and was selected first among approximately 20 candidates. His intelligence, physical agility, and calm demeanor were among the qualities that impressed officials. Germantown Police Chief Mike Fisher expressed enthusiasm about Taz’s work ethic and ability to balance social interaction with officers and focus during work.
Taz was recently recognized with a badge and treats around his birthday. He is partnered with Officer Nick Iacobucci. The team is assigned to support the K-9 Unit’s operations and assist with community engagement efforts.
