A 36-year-old Hebron man was seriously injured after his vehicle crashed into farm equipment in McHenry County, as per the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. The accident occurred on Thayer Road, just west of Illinois Route 47 on Monday evening.
Authorities from various departments, including the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and local Fire Protection Districts, responded around 7:57 p.m. to the accident site, where they found the victim trapped in a 2009 Honda Odyssey with considerable damage. Traveling westbound, the minivan struck an Ecolo-Tiger 875 disk ripper attachment of an eastbound tractor; the operator of the Honda required extrication from the vehicle and suffered grave injuries.
The driver of the tractor involved, a 78-year-old man from the same region, was reported unharmed. In the wake of the crash, Honda's airbags were deployed, but it was noted that the driver's seatbelt was not fastened. Investigators are exploring whether alcohol played a role in this incident as indicated by initial findings.
The injured driver was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry and is in serious condition, according to officials. With the crash under scrutiny by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, further details are forthcoming.
