A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy discharged their firearm at a suspect's car after an attempted traffic stop escalated yesterday. Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reported that the deputy, who was surveilling a vehicle connected to multiple burglaries, was unharmed despite being rammed by the suspect's car during the confrontation. The sequence of events began when detectives tried to pull over the suspicious vehicle in Marrero, near Barataria Boulevard and the West Bank Expressway.

The encounter intensified when the driver opted to use the vehicle as a battering ram against the detective's car, as opposed to surrendering. Removing the suspected burglar from safety, the deputy opened fire, an action that led to a pursuit ending near Lapalco Boulevard and Barataria Boulevard, where two suspects were apprehended. The third suspect managed to evade capture and remains at large, NOLA.com reports.

According to WDSU, the two individuals arrested following the chase are a man and a woman; however, their identities have not been disclosed. Sheriff Lopinto confirmed there were no injuries reported among the suspects or the deputies during the ordeal.

Authorities have since established a perimeter in the Belle Terre neighborhood as part of a comprehensive manhunt for the third accomplice. Aided by a helicopter, drone, and K-9 unit, the search continues. "He's fine," Lopinto said in relation to the condition of the deputy involved in the shooting, according to a Fox 8 Live report.

Residents of the impacted areas have been advised to remain vigilant as law enforcement officers conduct their investigation. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office continues to urge anyone with information regarding the third suspect to come forward.
