Residents in various parts of Jefferson Parish are set to experience low-level aerial spraying tonight, intended to manage a spike in mosquito activity. Jefferson Parish have announcedthat the areas on both the East and West banks, specifically parts of Kenner, Crown Point, Lafitte, and Barataria, will undergo this mosquito control measure from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.

A large-scale mosquito control operation is underway in Jefferson Parish, targeting areas from Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi River in Kenner, and extending east and west through Crown Point, Lafitte, and Barataria. The effort is being led by Vector Disease Control International (VDCI), the parish’s contracted mosquito control provider. Spraying zones include regions north of Lake Pontchartrain, extending south to the end of Jean Lafitte near Kenal Road and Orange Avenue, with the marshlands forming the eastern and western boundaries.

As part of the mosquito control effort, VDCI will use twin-engine aircraft flying at approximately 300 feet to apply an EPA-approved mosquito control product. The treatment is approved for use in residential, municipal, and agricultural areas. Each plane is equipped with spray guidance technology designed to ensure precise and effective application of the product across targeted zones.

Efforts like aerial mosquito spraying are conducted in part to address concerns related to mosquito-borne diseases. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain indoors during spraying to minimize direct exposure to the product. Notifications from local authorities are issued in advance to provide the public with details about timing and coverage areas, allowing individuals to take appropriate safety measures during the operation.
