Art enthusiasts and community members of Las Cruces have a new attraction to look forward to in the form of "Allochory," a public art sculpture designed by artist Jamie Spinello. The Las Cruces Quality of Life Department, alongside the Las Cruces Public Art program and the City Art Board, is gearing up for the dedication ceremony of this notable installation. This event is slated for the morning of November 13, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the City Hall near the flagpoles, situated at 700 N. Main St, according to the City of Las Cruces.
The sculpture, formed from aluminum panels, is an abstract representation of the pods from the red yucca plant, a species native to the area and aptly featured in the surrounding landscape. Funding for "Allochory" came through New Mexico Arts’ "Art In Public Places" program, which contributed to the sculpture being one of six AIPP selections procured for City Hall. The dedicated committee, including staff, City Art board members, and a local representative, was instrumental in the selection process, as detailed by the City of Las Cruces.
The artist behind "Allochory," Jamie Spinello, is known for her intricate designs and the blending of natural themes with man-made structures. Her work encapsulates not merely an aesthetic appeal but also reflects on the innate connections between nature and the habitats we construct, offering passersby a chance to ponder this interlink.
