According to FOX 32 Chicago, the collision occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, in the 5100 block of North Western Avenue, where a blue BMW collided with a silver Honda, subsequently sending the BMW careening into the Quick Bite restaurant. The 34-year-old BMW driver and a 17-year-old passenger were stabilized at local hospitals following the incident, while the 25-year-old Honda driver declined medical attention.
The force of the crash not only shattered the tranquility of the Ravenswood neighborhood but also left the longstanding Quick Bite restaurant in ruins and with it, the heart of its owner seemed to fracture, Tom Athanasakos expressed the devastation he felt upon seeing the aftermath of the crash by saying "My restaurant destroyed. Tough times come. Destroyed," as CBS News Chicago reported. Resilience is kindled within the community as neighbor Ryan McNicholas has already taken it upon himself to initiate a GoFundMe campaign to support the restaurant's restoration.
Witnesses recount the terrifying moments leading up to the impact, with McNicholas telling CBS News Chicago, "Live right in the neighborhood, heard a very loud screeching, slamming on brakes, horns, and then a large crash. It look like Quick Bites hit by a vehicle looked like it was taking a left on Foster. There was a bunch of occupants."
