The Charlotte Fire Department has named Malik Burkett as its 2025 Civilian of the Year, recognizing his years of dedication and service.
According to City of Charlotte release, Burkett began his journey with the department through the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program, where he assisted logistics teams and learned about department operations. After his part-time position ended in 2014 due to budget cuts, he worked in other industries while maintaining ties with the department.
In 2016, Burkett returned full-time to the Logistics Division and now serves as Facilities Services Coordinator, managing supplies, payments, and equipment readiness. His consistent work and reliability have earned him respect from colleagues across the department.
Burkett expressed appreciation for the recognition, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and teamwork in maintaining a strong and supportive workplace.
