
This morning brought tragedy to the Linda Vista neighborhood, as gunfire disrupted the quiet and claimed the life of one man. According to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), officers responded at approximately 12:45 AM to reports of shots fired near the Linda Vista Recreation Center at 7064 Levant Street.
Upon arrival, responding officers discovered a man, believed to be in his 30s, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures before San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Despite their combined efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The SDPD Homicide Unit has since assumed responsibility for the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect, described as a heavyset Hispanic male adult, approached the victim before firing the fatal shot. Investigators are continuing to determine the circumstances and motive surrounding the incident. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending family notification.
