San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins confirmed the conviction of a 43-year-old man, Rolondo Christopher Clyburn, for second-degree robbery at the Civic Center BART station. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, a jury found Mr. Clyburn guilty of the violent crime that transpired on May 8, 2024.
At the trial, evidence showed that Clyburn followed his victim into the BART station and, after stealing her phone, brutally attacked her when she attempted to retrieve it. As per the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Jenkins said, "Every single day people depend upon public transit to assist them traveling throughout the Bay Area and have a right to safety in these spaces. My office will continue to work hard to ensure that anyone who commits crime on our buses or train systems is held accountable."
Assistant District Attorney Pearl Tan led the prosecution, supported by paralegal Andres Hernandez-Ruano and IT support Noaeh Pinaire. "I would like to thank the jury for their careful consideration of the evidence and the facts to deliver this just verdict to the victim,” Tan told the District Attorney's Office. The diligent efforts of the BART Police were critical in establishing a strong case against Clyburn.
Mr. Clyburn is in custody, and his sentencing regarding aggravating factors and prior conviction allegations has been deferred until a bench trial on November 5. If the court upholds his previous convictions, Clyburn could face up to 15 years in state prison.
