According to Local 10 News, the Miami Beach police received an emergency call, and body camera footage showed the rescue that unfolded around 10 p.m. Monday, with officers navigating through rough, low-visibility waters to save the quartet.
In a race against time, and the unforgiving sea, police officers managed to locate and retrieve all four men. "Get closer so I can throw a life vest," one officer commanded, as they worked vigorously to secure the individuals' safety. "Dale, dale," another urged as they brought the final person aboard, a moment captured on body cameras that underscored the gravity of the situation. Miami Beach Police Officer Christopher Bess told Local 10 News, "None of them had life jackets on. We put on our lifesaving gear and were able to reel in four victims."
The video released by the police presented a stark account of the incident, revealing the harsh conditions that the officers, and the victims, had to contend with. "The body-worn camera footage captured how rough conditions were. It also captured the visibility, or lack thereof, our officers were faced against. However, we were able to locate each victim," Officer Bess recounted, stressing the close call nature of the ordeal. Despite these daunting obstacles, every person was pulled from the brink safely without any reported injuries, as reported by Local 10 News.
Further details emerged from NBC Miami, clarifying that two of the individuals were found clinging to the vessel while, two others were struggling in the water, one of whom appeared severely fatigued and distressed.
