Attention, Miami drivers: expect some late-night travel disruptions this week. According to the I-395/S.R. 836/I-95 Design-Build Project website, all eastbound travel lanes on S.R. 836 at NW 17 Avenue will face complete closure from yesterday, through Friday, to make room for the construction of overhead bridge support structures. These closures will take effect each night between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., with an extended closure on Friday starting at 11 p.m. and reopening at 7:30 a.m. The official website advises drivers to be aware of potential adjustments on days with special events.
The suggested detour includes exiting at NW 17 Avenue, continuing south across NW 7 Street, then making a left at SW 1 Street, and heading east. From there, turn right on South Miami Avenue, where you'll find ramps to access I-95 north or south, as explained on the project’s website. Those aiming for Biscayne Boulevard or the MacArthur Causeway can carry on east on SW 1 Street and then turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to find their way to the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace.
Meanwhile, updates shared via the Miami Police Department's traffic advisory on X reiterated these closures and detour instructions, pointing out that the nightly closures are specifically for bridge work. For those who frequent NW 12 Avenue and are looking to get on eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, or the MacArthur Causeway, the direction is to continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours highlighted.
