Miami will celebrate its local heroes at the 4th Annual Hometown Heroes Parade and Festival, announced by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins. The event will honor those who keep Miami-Dade County safe and will be held on Saturday, November 1, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Tropical Park, according to a Miami-Dade County news release.

"This event returns to continue our tradition of honoring the extraordinary individuals who keep our community safe, strong, and united,” said Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins in a statement obtained by Miami-Dade County. The parade and festival set out to specifically thank first responders, law enforcement, and everyday heroes who step up in crisis moments. This year will feature DJ Laz, known as Lazaro Mendez, as its Grand Marshal, a man with over three decades of using his platform to positively impact Miami families.

The festival will also present the “Echy” Hero’s Award, a tribute to the heroic legacy of Detective Cesar “Echy” Echaverry, who lost his life in 2022 during active service. This accolade is reserved for a local hero who has clearly demonstrated courage and a commitment to service in their actions.

Attendees can expect to enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere complete with a parade showcasing police officers, firefighters, military personnel, and other public service heroes. Following the procession, the festival will unfold to include a variety of food trucks, children’s activities, and live entertainment. To top off the celebration, local artists are to help set the stage for what will surely be a memorable lineup of musical performances, with a fireworks display set to illuminate the night sky.

Everyone is welcome to join Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, DJ Laz, and the many honored Hometown Heroes for an afternoon and evening of recognition and fun. Details of the Hometown Heroes Parade and Festival can be found at Tropical Park, located at 7900 SW 40th Street, Miami, FL 33155.
