Last week, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida initiated a significant expansion of their Miccosukee Casino & Resort, beginning what is projected to be a transformative $40 million development. According to Local 10, the groundbreaking was marked by a traditional ceremony, combining cultural practices with speeches from tribal leadership and a symbolic turning of the dirt.
Set in the courtyard of the resort, the start of this construction holds promise for future hospitality and entertainment amenities at the tribal property. "This groundbreaking is a testament to our Tribe's strength and forward-thinking spirit," Chairman Talbert Cypress expressed in a statement obtained by Local 10. The first phase includes a resort-style pool and lazy river, plus a new multi-purpose entertainment facility.
Additionally, as noted by Indian Gaming, the general manager of Miccosukee Casino & Resort, Brad Rhines, highlighted the strategic benefits of the expansion in enhancing both the guest experience and the resort’s competitive status as an entertainment destination. As the property sits on the edge of the Florida Everglades, these developments are also expected to further solidify the Tribe’s economic and cultural standings.
The collaborative nature of the project, which involves Arcadis, Dade Construction, EDSA, and Martin Aquatic, is also a point of significance. "Arcadis is honored to help bring the Tribe's vision to life," Dan Freed, Business Unit Director for Arcadis U.S., Inc., told Indian Gaming. He acknowledges the melding of cultural heritage with design and sustainable development objectives, alluding to a destination that resonates with progress and pride for the Miccosukee people.
Given their history as a gaming powerhouse since 1990, this new endeavor continues to underscore the Miccosukee Tribe's dedication to economic vitality, job creation, and maintaining their cultural heritage.
