In a recent account by the San Francisco Police Department, an altercation that spiraled into violence ended with one person hospitalized with a gunshot wound and another now facing numerous charges. The incident unfolded on September 21 in the Mission District, where officers responded quickly to reports of a shooting near 24th and York Streets. It was around 1:15 AM when they found the injured party, who also had a firearm on their person, who was promptly seized as evidence by the authorities.
Despite the initial chaos, the SFPD quickly came to conclusions about the events that led to this near-fatal encounter. A verbal clash was said to have escalated into physical violence before the suspect chose to rapidly fire multiple shots, wounding the victim, as per the SFPD's news release. After stabilizing the victim and beginning their inquiry, police pinpointed Jesus Romero, 37, of Oakland, as the suspect in this case.
Efficient police work ensured that the investigation swiftly resulted in action. Last Friday, Romero was arrested at his Oakland home by SFPD’s Violence Reduction Team officers. They effected the arrest without further incident and executed a search warrant that led to the recovery of a firearm, magazines, and ammunition.
Romero now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault with a firearm. His rap sheet, as detailed in the police press release, extends to the illegal possession of a weapon and ammunition. Currently, he is being held in the San Francisco County jail as further investigations continue around the circumstances of the September shooting.
