Chaos erupted in Oceanside on Monday when a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into an apparent immigration enforcement operation, raising concerns among residents. According to a statement from the Oceanside Police Department (OPD), they received a 911 call at around 8:40 AM from an individual who reported being surrounded by unmarked ICE and U.S. Marshals vehicles on Mission Avenue, near Oceanside High School. The dispatcher overheard what seemed to be an argument during the call.

OPD officers and a supervisor were dispatched quickly to respond to additional calls reporting a traffic collision at the same location. Upon arrival, they discovered the incident was related to an immigration enforcement stop conducted by ICE and U.S Marshals. The agencies, however, decided to discontinue their operation abruptly and left the area following police intervention, a move that surely did not go unnoticed by the school community and residents.

The individual at the center of the enforcement stop was not arrested, and an OPD officer stayed on the scene to document the traffic collision that occurred amidst the confrontation. The OPD has not provided further details on the the individual's identity or the reasons behind the immigration operation.
