Rapper Playboi Carti, whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter, found himself in legal trouble following an incident in Utah where he was charged with assault, a class B misdemeanor in Wasatch County, as per charging documents highlighted by 2KUTV.
Despite his musical success, with hits and accolades like the Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year in 2024, the legal troubles for Carter are mounting, having purportedly engaged in a physical altercation on October 2, just ahead of the October 3 Salt Lake City kick-off for his "Antagonist 2.0 Tour"; the incident, however, didn't halt the tour's progression, which is expected to wrap up in Atlanta come December 1.
Conflicting information around the case arose with some outlets advising caution in accepting reports at face value, particularly HotNewHipHop pointed out discrepancies and uncertainties in the coverage around the alleged assault; they highlighted the complexity of the situation in which the limo driver victim—who thought Playboi Carti and his partner were escalating into a full-blown fight—wanted them separated into different vehicles.
KSL.com provided further depth, obtaining a police report through a public records request that described the driver's account of the incident where he alleged that, after stopping the car to de-escalate tensions, Carter struck both his girlfriend and the driver himself, the latter recounting that he "turned my head for just a brief minute off to the right hand side, and this (expletive) hits me in the face; punches me in the (expletive) face."
Authorities issued Carter an assault citation based on multiple statements, including those from his girlfriend, who admitted to hitting the driver, while the security guard claimed responsibility for elbowing the driver—but Carter reportedly admitted to punching the driver as well. Deputies documented the visible redness on the driver's face, which aligned with the reported physical contact.
