
A tragic incident occurred this morning in San Diego's Core-Columbia neighborhood when a 54-year-old man on a bicycle was struck by an MTS trolley, resulting in life-threatening head injuries. According to a press release by the San Diego Police Department, the collision happened around 9:26 AM along 119 West C Street, where the bicyclist allegedly veered off into the trolley path.
The press release details that despite the presence of flexible delineators designed to separate the trolley lanes from other traffic lanes, the victim rode southwest into the trolley lane and was hit, following which he was immediately transported to a local hospital, he is currently not expected to survive given the severity of his injuries, officers from the SDPD Traffic Division were dispatched to the location where they are now investigating the incident.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of both the bicyclist and the trolley operator, who is reported to be 50 years old. At this time, the details surrounding the cause of the collision remain under investigation, and no further information has been provided about the circumstances leading up to this unfortunate event.
