Tragedy struck the Chollas Creek neighborhood as a young boy was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident, the San Diego Police Department reports. The 6-year-old was crossing University Avenue yesterday when an unknown driver hit him and fled the scene. The boy, who was struck while walking mid-block around 6:50 PM, was taken to a local hospital, where he later died due to his injuries, as per the SDPD Watch Commander's Log.
The authorities are now searching for the driver, who was traveling westbound in the number two lane when the collision occurred. The SDPD Traffic Division has taken charge of the investigation, working to piece together the circumstances of the tragedy. Officer J. Perales, the watch commander, encouraged anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
