In a recent report, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office announced a jury conviction of Gabriel Eliseo Sequeira Garcia for offenses including drug trafficking in the city's Tenderloin district and possession of drugs while incarcerated. The 27-year-old faced multiple charges: possession for sale or purchase of fentanyl and cocaine base, having a controlled substance in jail, and violating a court-imposed stay-away order, as detailed on the DA's website.
During an operation on September 21, 2023, officers from the San Francisco Police Department’s Narcotics Unit caught Sequeira Garcia selling cocaine base to an undercover officer. A total of six and a half grams of the drug and a sum of money were seized from him at the time of arrest. His tenure at the San Francisco County Jail was similarly tainted with illicit activity; a deputy discovered methamphetamine hidden in Mr. Sequeira Garcia's underwear during a search on February 2, 2024, according to San Francisco DA's Office.
Sentencing has yet to be scheduled pending a status hearing set for October 30. The convictions come with a potential sentence of up to eight years in custody. The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Axell Hernandez, backed by paralegals and IT support.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins stated, "This case is an example of why my office must remain vigilant in holding drug dealers accountable." In a statement obtained by the San Francisco DA's office, Jenkins also remarked on the role of the community in these efforts: "The verdict sends a message that San Franciscans recognize the seriousness of these crime and the toll that they take on our community." Assistant District Attorney Hernandez expressed thanks to the jury for their "thorough examination of the evidence and for reaching a fair verdict," as these convictions serve as a deterrent to those trafficking dangerous and deadly drugs in the area.
