After a months-long investigation culminating in a substantial bust, San Francisco police seized over a pound of methamphetamine, a slew of illegal firearms, and silencers. They recovered a classic Porsche 911, a Yamaha motorbike, and other stolen items. The breakthrough was announced by Interim Chief Paul Yep, who lauded the dedication and diligence of the officers involved, "Our Burglary and Auto Theft Unit spent months on this investigation, and our streets are safer because of them."
The investigation took a decisive turn on May 18 when officers from Richmond Station responded to a report of a stolen trailer packed with approximately $70,000 worth of equipment, according to SFPD's news release. Jumping to June, the trailer was recovered on the 500 block of 32nd Avenue, leading to the arrest of 61-year-old John Choy for its possession.
The Police's continued investigation pointed to irregularities in vehicles linked to Choy, directing officers to a stolen 1989 Yamaha FZR400 motorcycle in front of a residence on September 18. Subsequently, a search warrant at Choy’s residence uncovered numerous firearms, including four assault weapons, parts from the stolen motorcycle, more than one pound of methamphetamine, additional stolen items, and an engine from another stolen Porsche inside a recovered 1979 Porsche 911 SC.
Choy is now facing multiple charges, including possession of illegal firearms and drugs, as confirmed by the SFPD. The exact charges include felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a silencer, possession of methamphetamine for sale, receiving a stolen vehicle, receiving stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. The investigation remains open as SFPD encourages anyone with information to come forward, with the promise of anonymity for those who choose it.
