Last week's disturbing incident in Golden Gate Park, where a child was reportedly sexually assaulted in a restroom during soccer practice, has inspired a quick response from city departments and an urgent investigation by San Francisco police. According to The SF Standard, officers responded to the scene around 5:30 PM last Thursday after the assault was reported. The child was attending a practice with San Francisco Youth Soccer when the attack occurred. "Investigators are working diligently on this high-priority case," a spokesperson for the SFPD said.
In the wake of the incident, authorities and local organizations are quickly enhancing children's safety in the area. The Recreation and Parks Department has installed a new security camera and assigned a park ranger to specifically patrol around the restroom from 3 to 5 PM on weekdays, peak hours when kids are always in the vicinity for after-school sports.
Additional measures have also been implemented. Per the SF Chronicle, regular field monitor rotations between the Beach Chalet and Polo Fields and ranger spot checks are underway during after-school hours, including weekends. Eloisa Tejero, interim San Francisco Youth Soccer executive director, expressed the organization's distress, saying, "Our deepest sympathies go out to the player, their family, friends, and the entire team."
