The San Francisco Police Department recently made an arrest in connection with a Tenderloin shooting that occurred in early August. The shooting, which took place in broad daylight near the intersection of Golden Gate Ave. and Jones St., left one individual wounded from gunfire, according to an official SFPD news release.
Responding to the incident on August 7 at around 12:20 PM, officers discovered the victim and provided immediate assistance until medics arrived. Shortly after, the suspect was seen fleeing into a building on the unit block of Jones St, but a search of the premises did not yield an arrest at the time. The victim, meanwhile, was transported to a local hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation efforts by the SFPD eventually led to the identification of Vincent Thompson, a resident of Oakland, as the alleged assailant. Nearly three months after the shooting, Thompson was apprehended last Thursday without resistance at a home in Tracy, CA. This joint operation involved members of the SFPD Citywide Plainclothes Team, the Tracy Police Department, and the US Marshals Task Force.
In addition to the arrest, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Thompson's residence in Oakland. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and robbery, and has been booked into the San Francisco County Jail, the SFPD press release confirmed. Despite Thompson's arrest, the case remains open and under investigation, police emphasized.
