San Francisco's ongoing battle with illegal narcotics took a significant step forward this week following a successful police operation. Interim Chief Paul Yep, representing the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), announced the seizure of close to 1,200 grams of narcotics from a residence in Oakland. The raid on Wednesday also led to the arrest of 33-year-old Kelbin Sanders-Cruz.
Investigators discovered an arsenal of drug-related paraphernalia at the scene, including a hydraulic press, hydraulic brick press molds, drug press plates, scales, respirators, and packaging supplies. Alongside the narcotics, officers found cash amounting to $6,476. As per the San Francisco Police Department, Yep said, "Our officers did a tremendous job getting a large amount of narcotics off the street that were earmarked for sale in San Francisco."
The SFPD's arrest of Sanders-Cruz aligns with its intensive crackdown on illegal drug markets through the city's Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC), initiated in May of 2023. Notable figures from the ongoing operations include the seizure of over 426 kilos of narcotics, of which 153 kilos were fentanyl. Additionally, there have been over 10,000 arrests, with a staggering 2,277 alleged drug dealers taken into custody.
The confiscated narcotics comprised 1137.8 grams of fentanyl and 29.2 grams of methamphetamine. The suspect is now facing charges of operating or maintaining a drug house, manufacturing a controlled substance, and possession for sale of controlled substances, among other charges. Despite these successes, the SFPD maintains that the investigation is still open and active. They urge anyone with information to reach out via their tip line.
